Nancy Baay was born and raised and educated in Connecticut, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 1961 from Connecticut College. A transplanted Southwesterner, Nancy and her husband John and four children moved to Amarillo, Texas in 1971. Every summer is spent on Squam Lake with family, which now includes 12 grandchildren.
Her watercolor career has included several one person shows, many competitive shows and awards and many hours of teaching, along with studying in workshop formats.
“Whether I am painting in the Southwest or in New England, I strive for each painting to capture that “one shining moment” that has attracted my eye. Whether it is the play of light and shadow, certain shapes, or interesting color, I am challenged by capturing that special something, that my viewers might see in a new way. I find that watercolor is the most spontaneous and pure way to achieve what it is that I am trying to convey.”
